Re: ABA and the UCI

Crankarm, with regard to the pro track builder, it wouldn't necessarily be someone with AB bicycle but it could be a UCI track builder like Tom RITZ. Fact is any AB track that wants their track rebuilt can get it done for free. Cherie & Sandy, thank you for the cost information. One thing is sti...

Re: ABA and the UCI

Morning Crankarm, 4 am, that sucks depending on the reason you're still awake. Unfortunatley, money, whether we like it or not is important to people. That is my concern about "grassroots" and the fact that if the cost becomes too high (just like hockey) many people will not play. People p...

Re: ABA and the UCI

Thanks for the info crankarm and yes I do attend ABA national series races. Now, with regard to the local races. No matter what the cost for the ABA, AB riders can currently do all that for less. You are right about the cost for one rider however when you multiple that by multiple riders and multipl...

Re: BC Racers

There is one other very important difference that I have seen. Those BC riders that I have noticed and are much improved have access to an indoor facility and basically ride 10 months out of the year. Unfortunately, our AB kids tend to gravitate towards winter sports like hockey and we all know (at ...

Re: ABA and the UCI

DW, you are correct. Local races are one thing and the cost difference in that regard is substantial. Now, the other part of my point was this. If a family of four races (based on a qualifying season) in the Prov series the cost would be about $500, the CBA for the same number of races about $840 an...

Re: ABA and the UCI

There are good points about the ABA but one very bad point....................cost.

We can run races just as well at half the cost with the right people in the right places.

Lets see what next season brings and go from there.

Re: racing

Thanks Jim, That is nice to know about the warnings and DQ's. This is one more reason why we need experienced people to stick around and groom/teach the new officials. Like I said earlier everything is open to interpretation. It would appear that people "interpreted" that more calls were m...

Re: Alberta clubs

Having read responses from both sides only one thing is clear and DW has already alluded to it. The sanction discussion will continue for years and years. Right now from what I see the ABA isn't the right sanction for Albertans in AB. It is one more piece of the puzzle that riders may want to use to...

Re: racing

Well, time for me to chime in again.....but on this topic............boy I'm glad to be allowed to post here again. I don't see that BMX is any worse for officiating than say hockey. It is part of sport and many times the officials make mistakes. Perhaps the calls have increased because we have new/...

Re: Alberta clubs

Oh yea, one other comment. I was going over the ABA National races and looking at rider counts. With the exception of a couple none of the races have many more riders that an AB Provincial series race. In some cases the race numbers are only a handful of rider differences. This is actually quite a s...

Re: Alberta clubs

I have been reading these posts with interest for the last while. I have so much to say but will only comment on the ABA issue that has come up recently. I agree with DW's comment about payment. That and the UCI are gigantic stumbling blocks for AB riders. If anyone thinks that CCA will give over co...
